Appeal over New Year’s Day assault at Meden Vale

Detectives investigating a serious New Year’s Day assault in a busy miner’s welfare function room have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

The incident happened at Welbeck Colliery Miners Welfare, in Meden Vale, at around 5.30pm on New Years Day.

A 38-year-old man was left with severe facial injuries that required reconstructive surgery.

A 28-year-old man from Warsop was arrested the following day on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He is currently on bail pending further enquiries.

Police are still keen to speak anyone who saw the assault or knows anything about it. It is understood that between 200 and 300 people were in the function room at the time.
