Could you be a TA medic?

ARE you looking for a new career challenge, something rewarding to do in your spare time, or an adventure that will shake up the day job? Then why not find out more about joining the Territorial Army (TA).

The Medical Services of the Nottingham TA is holding an open day on Tuesday 25th September at the TA Centre, Broadgate, Beeston, Nottingham, NG9 2HF, 7.30 to 9.30pm.

The TA would particularly like to hear from people who have a medical qualification, including consultants, surgeons, GPs, dentists, nurse, paramedics and pharmacists. However, it is also open to anyone seeking more information about the TA.

Captain Harris, from the Nottingham TA Field Hospital, said: “Wherever you find the British Army, you will find the Territorial Army Medical Services who are deployed all over the world to provide medical support.

“Whether that support is during war fighting, counter insurgency, peacemaking or during peacekeeping operations, the medical service is there to look after the soldiers’ health and provide medical care to the sick and injured.

“The TA offers the best of both worlds to people who want to experience Army life but are unable to make a full time commitment.”

At the open evening visitors will be able to meet existing medical reservists to ask them about their experiences and why they chose to join the TA.

Captain, Christine Ongoma, 42, of Stapleford Nottingham, joined as a TA nursing officer four years ago as a sideline to her ward manager role at Lingsbar Hospital. With a masters degree in intensive care and trauma nursing she wanted to try something different, whilst also achieving a personal challenge.

Christine said: “I’ve not been deployed yet to put my medical skills into good use, but I have played an active role in the Remembrance Parade and army competitions - that’s the great thing about the TA you get to be involved in so many different things.

“Being a member of the TA, and going through officer training at Sandhurst Military Academy, has boosted my confidence and developed my leadership skills which will enhance my civilian CV too.”
