Mkt Warsop Players The group performed the pantomime, ‘Sleeping Beauty,’ to packed audiences over three days during Christmas week at Londgen Terrace Miners’ Welfare.

Old Warsop Society

The society held its annual Christmas party at the Parish Centre.

A buffet was provided by the café on High Street and a quiz was organised by Mr D.

Edwards and a raffle was organised by Mrs K. Milburn.

Cubs and Beavers

The group met at the Methodist Church where they made Christingles, with each part of the Christingle being explained.Mrs Cathy Picken, the children’s and family officer from the Parish Church, visited and assisted teaching a new song called ‘Great Big God.’ Mr A. Melless and Mr I. Taylor were assisted by explorer scouts Jordan Grieve and Lorna Sheppard. Cubs Ben Stevenson and Keaton Keane received night’s away badges. On Thursday 20th December, Beavers and Cubs had a joint Christmas party at the Methodist church, playing with party games, and dancing, the evening finished with them performing the song the 12

days of Christmas to actions. Mr A. Melless, Mr I. Taylor and Miss K. Howard made

arrangements.

Sat Night Dance Club

The club met over the Christmas period at Woodside

Hall. MC was Mr D. Salt and finance was arranged by Mrs J. Mallett and various

committee members served refreshments.

Parish Church

The Rev Angela Fletcher was the celebrant at Christmas Eve and the preacher was Mrs Jane Skidmore. The lesson was read by Mrs Jenny Briggs and intercessions by Peter Birchenall. On Christmas Day the Rector was the Celebrant and the preacher was Miss Pat Brewin. The lesson was

read by Miss Kath Askey and intercessions by Ken Johnson. Mrs Ann Brookes and Mrs Pam Radford assisted with the chalice. Yesterday week the Rector was celebrant at both the early and later communion services.

Scouts

The Scouts met at the Methodist Church and sorted out Christmas Cards for the scout Christmas post which they also delivered around Warsop and Meden Vale.

They also built a bridge out of newspaper to see which group’s bridge could hold the

strongest weight. Mr A. Grieve and Mr I. Smith assisted.

Rotary Club

Members attended the Warsop Christmas Market when they organised Santa’s Grotto, which raised £236 was raised for Warsop and District

causes. Twenty-eight members and eight guests met for the final meeting of the year at Teversal

Meeting Rooms where Rotarian Richard Goad provided the refreshments Speaker

was Steve Ward the oldest professional boxing champion in the world. He gave a

talk and produced his boxing belts won outright together with the Guinness Book

of Records Certificate. The Christmas Dinner was held at Launeys restaurant in

Edwinstowe.

Talbot Fun Day

Held a family New Year’s Fun Day yesterday week with

competitions and prizes, face painting, children were able to dance and sing with

Hamet the Pig.

Water Col Art Class

New art class lessons will start tonight (9th January) from 6.30-9pm , new members are welcome, call 01623 843473 for further details.

Methodist Church

Sunday week’s morning service was conducted by Mrs I.

Shawcroft who also preached.

St Teresa’ RC Church

On Christmas Day Canon Jonathan Cotton was the

celebrant at Morning Mass and gave the Homily. The reading was given by B.

Hopkinson and Eucharistic Ministers were F, Barrett, M. Booth and A. Burgin.

On Sunday week Canon Cotton was the celebrant and gave the Homily. The reading

was given by J. Johnson and Eucharistic Minsters were K. Payne, A. Pearson and D.

Pearson.
