Old Warsop Society

On Wednesday week 30 members met at the Parish Centre when Mr M. Mumford gave an illustrated talk entitled, ‘Mansfield through the eyes of Buxton.’ He showed paintings done by A. S. Buxton of Old Mansfield which currently forms part of an exhibition at the Mansfield Museum. Chairman Mr L. Clarke gave a vote of thanks. Refreshments were served by Mrs K. Milburn and Mrs S. Marshall.

Beavers

Met on Thursday week at the Methodist Church and made hanging Christmas decorations. Miss K. Howard was assisted by Explorer Scout Jordan Grieve.

Oaklands

Tuesday week’s charity raised £122. Hostesses were Medammes J. Davis, B. Cartwright and P. Smith. Helpers were Medammes B. Stockdale, M. Collier, I. Hodgson, A. Quinn, S. Freeman, P. Freeman, W. Simms, M. Carr, B. Hartshorn, J. Malcolm and M Freer. Thursday weeks Tea Dance raised £79.50 MCs were Colin and Brenda Brooks and Hostess was Mrs V Gibbons. Saturday weeks Christmas Fayre raised £1330 and was organised by the Friends of the Oaklands.

St Teresa’s RC Church

Sunday weeks Morning Mass for Advent was celebrated by Canon Jonathan Cotton who also gave the Homily. The reading was given by M. Armson and Eucharistic Ministers were F. Barrett, M. Booth and A, Burgin. Mrs Lynn Goff laid the Advent wreath. Children met in the church hall for activities On Thursday week a Jumble Sale was held in the church hall. 42 shoe boxes have been passed on to Operation Christmas Child.

Bellringers

Met in the ringing chamber of the Parish Church on Sunday week and rang for the morning service, in the afternoon they rang for an afternoon wedding. Ringers were conducted by Tower Captain Chris Richards.

Probus Club

President Hugh Ashton welcomed members to the Parish Centre on Wednesday week when member Ron Reynolds gave a talk about Vacuum cleaners. Afterwards 28 members sat down for lunch.

Parish Church

Sunday week’s early Holy Communion for Advent was celebrated by the Rector the Rev Angela Fletcher and the preacher was Mrs Pam Radford. At the later service the Rector was the celebrant and the preacher was Mrs Radford and assisted with the chalice with David Richards. The first candle on the Advent tree was lit and the reading was given by Miss Kath Askey and the intercessions were led by Mr David Richards. Prayer Ministry was led by Mrs Jane Skidmore and Ken Johnson. In the evening the Rector conducted a service of Hope and Remembrance. Yesterday week volunteers staffed the Cross keys Charity shop and café at the Parish Centre. On Saturday week the Christmas Fayre took place in the Tudor Barn.

Cubs

Met on Thursday week at the Methodist Church and completed a poverty programme, by examining the differences between rich and poor countries for work towards their global challenge badge. Collector’s badges were presented to Jacob Shutt, Lewis Sheppard, Lewis Lambley and Jack Storer. Communicator badges were awarded to Lewis, Lambley, Lewis Sheppard, Liam Bostock, Callum Watson, Jacob Shutt, Ben Stevenson, Evan Edwards, Charlie Walker, Ethan Baines, Tasmin Coupe, Jack Storer, and Keaton Keane. Mr I. Taylor was assisted by Explorer Scouts Jordan Grieve, and Lorna Sheppard.

Methodist Church

Mr R. Fenell conducted and preached at Sunday week’s morning united service for Advent.

Saturday Dance Club

MC at Saturday week’s meeting at Woodside Hall was Mr D. Salt finance was organised by Mrs J. Mallett. Refreshments were provided by Mrs A. Pearce on her 90th birthday and were served by Mrs J. Woodcock, Mr and Mrs D. Niblett and Messers R. Hill, K. Wake and T. Person. On Thursday week 47 members went to the Hostess Restaurant for a Christmas meal.

Christians Together

Members of the Anglican, Roman Catholic, Methodist and Bethel congregations took part in carol singing at the Sycamores and Poplars Nursing Home.

Church Vale Primary

Pupils from key stage two recently held a Christmas Concert at the Parish Church and pupils from Key Stage one will be performing the nativity this evening.

Scouts

Met on Wednesday week at the Methodist Church and learnt how to communicate in Morse code and use the phonetic alphabet. They also completed memory challenges. Mr I. Smith assisted.

Friends of the Carrs

An Open meeting was held on Monday week at the Hare and Hounds when ideas and suggestions for the maintaining the Carrs were discussed

Camera Club

Members met at Londgen Terrace Miners Welfare recently when they had their annual Christmas Party.

Tuesday Club

Members family and friends went to the Twin Oaks, Palterton, for their annual Christmas dinner yesterday week.

Royal British Legion

Members met at the Memorial Club for a social evening when member Mr Alan Hill together with friends entertained with music, after which mince pies were served.

St Augustine’s Church

Celebrant at Sunday week’s Holy Communion was Miss Pat Brewin and the preacher was Mrs Pam Radford who also assisted with the chalice.
