Ladies Probus Club

Met for their November meeting at the Parish Centre when a team from the Workhouse at Southwell came dressed up in Victorian costumes and spoke about how life would have been in the Workhouse. A vote of thanks was given by Miss Joan Green. The group’s Christmas Fayre at the Parish Centre raised £340 and the choir concert by the Dukeries singers in the Parish church raised £328 which will go towards president Paddy Holden’s charity Retinitis .

Bellringers

Chris Richards, Fred Flint, Sandra Boot, Bryn Richards, Adrian Hardy and Denis Smedley rang for an afternoon wedding. On Sunday week ringers rang for the morning service.

Saturday Dance Club

MC at Saturday week’s meeting at Woodside Hall was Mr Denis Salt. Finance was organised by Mrs S. Linell and Mr T. Pearson and refreshments were served by Mr and Mrs D. Niblett and Messers R. Hill, S. Hallett and K. Wake.

Beat team

Police held a surgery on George Street when local people were able to discuss issues of concern with officers. The next surgery will be at Warsop Library on 8th December from 11am till noon.

Church Vale Primary

Pupils from year 4 visited Newstead Abbey to see a Victorian Christmas.

Cubs

Met on Thursday week at the Methodist Church, they continued working towards their communicator badge by learning the phonetic alphabet after which Mrs Jenny Briggs taught the cubs sign language. Mr I. Taylor was assisted by explorer scouts Jordan Grieve and Lorna Sheppard. From Saturday to Sunday week Cubs had a sleepover at Ollerton Scout headquarters with the weekend having a jungle book theme, Cubs read and acted out the story of the jungle book, as well as, fruit tasting, making animal sounds, and making jungle brushes and pyrography on spatulas, baking biscuits. Mr A. Melless and Mr I. Taylor were assisted by explorer scouts Lorna Shepherd and Jordan Grieve.

Tuesday Club

Met yesterday week at Woodside Hall when hostesses were Mesdames M. Siven, B. Rudd, K. Betts and E. Murtagh. Table games were organised by Mrs M. Siven. Sweep winners were Mrs K. Betts and Mrs D. Pollard. Whist was organised by Mrs P. Lea and the winners were Mrs M. Lunn and Mr S. Lunn.

Parish Church

Sunday week’s Holy Communion for Christ the King was celebrated by the Rector the Reverend Angela Fletcher and the sermon was given by Miss Pat Brewin who assisted with the chalice. At the later service the Rector was celebrant and Miss Brewin preached and together with churchwarden Peter Birchenall assisted with the chalice. The reading and prayers were given by members of the Barker family. Prayer Ministry was led by Mrs Joyce Clarke and Churchwarden Mrs Jenny Briggs.

Scouts

Met on Wednesday week at the Methodist church and checked out some new tents after which they took part in trust games. Ryan Ferguson received his investiture badges, 1 night’s away badge, and global conservation badge. Sam Pritchard received a global conservation badge. Mr A. Grieve assisted.

St Teresa’s RC Church

Sunday weeks morning Mass was celebrated by Father Jonathan who also gave the Homily. The reading was given by M, Wright and Eucharistic Ministers were K. Payne, D. Pearson and A. Pearson. Children met in the church hall for activities before joining the main service at the Offertory. On Wednesday week the prayer group met at the Convent.

Beavers

Met on Thursday week at the Methodist Church when they took part in the anti- bullying week. They also discussed what makes good and bad friends and then designed posters on the subject of bullying. Miss K. Howard assisted.

Art Class

Artist Matthew Palmer welcomed members to the weekly Watercolour art class at the Oakland’s Centre on Wednesday week.

Warsop Wives

Met yesterday week at the Parish Centre when they had a photo quiz evening followed by refreshments.

St Augustine’s Church

On Sunday week the Rector the Rev Angela Fletcher conducted an evening service in celebration of Christ the King.

Library

On Friday week held rhyme time with action songs in conjunction with Surestart for parents and toddlers.
