Saturday Dance Club
MC at Woodside Hall on Saturday week was Denis Salt. Finance was organised by Mrs J. Mallet. Refreshments were served by Mrs J. Woodcock and Mrs H. Pearson and Messer’s R. Hill. K. Wake, D. Freeman and D. Niblett.
Bellringers
On Saturday week Bryn Richards, Fred Flint, Sandra Boot, Adrian Hardy, Philip Richards, Andrew Richards and Denis Smedley met in the ringing chamber of the church tower and rang for an afternoon wedding. On Sunday week Bryn Richards conducted ringers for the morning service.
Tuesday Club
Met yesterday week at Woodside Centre when hostesses were Mesdames L. Bown, M. Siven, K. Betts, B. Rudd and E. Murtagh. Table games were organised by Mrs M. Siven. Sweep winners were Mrs D. Pollard and Mrs K. Betts. Whist was organised by Mrs P. Lea and the winners were Mrs D. Pollard and Mrs P. Lea.
Library
Yesterday week Rhyme Time for youngsters and toddlers was held. September is Family History month with many events planned and there was a guided history walk around Warsop. On Tuesday 25th September there will be a ‘start to build your family tree session’, anyone wishing to take part should call 01623 842322.
Methodist Church
Sunday week’s morning service was conducted by Miss A. Griffiths who also preached. Harvest Festival will be held on 23rd Setember.
Surestart
On Monday and Friday week there was a Stay and Play session for parents and children to play and socialise at the centre on Church Street.
Royal British Legion
Members and friends had a trip to Bridlington which included a visit to Alderson House, a respite home which is available to anyone who has served in the forces and their spouses when they need a break. They were also shown the homes new minibus which the local branch had donated money to purchase three seats in.
Old Warsop Society
Are holding an exhibition about local history at Warsop Library until 29th September.
Parish Church
Celebrant at Sunday week’s early Holy Communion was the Rector the Rev Angela Fletcher who preached. Mrs Ann Brookes assisted with the chalice. At the later service the Rector welcomed the Archdeacon of Newark Ven David Picken who was celebrant. The Rector preached and Jane Skidmore and Pam Radford assisted with the chalice. The reading was given by Ken Johnson and intercessions were led by Mrs Maxine Hague and Prayer Ministry was led by Ken Johnson and Tony Hague. Organist Tony Herrod accompanied the choir. In the evening the Rector conducted a service of Hope and Remembrance. Yesterday week volunteers staffed the Cross Keys Charity shop and café.
Historical Society
Met at the Vale Hotel when Alan Nickless gave a talk entitled Around India.
Age Concern
Met yesterday week at Friendship House for luncheon and a game of bingo.
Over 50s
Met on Friday week at Meden Sports Centre for table tennis and refreshments.
Police
Yesterday week a police beat surgery was held at Meden Vale Charity shop. During August the beat team have made regular patrols around the parish and there has been no increase in the amount of calls relating to anti-social behaviour. The skate park and football facilities on the Carrs have been very busy and young people using them have been very well behaved. The annual police fishing competition has been held at Sherwood fisheries, was at success with over 40 young people taking part. The winner was Cameron Cross with a 56lbs in total. The beat team will be visiting all the schools in the Parish to talk about road safety and stranger danger. They will also discuss cyber bullying in the form of social network sites and mobile phones
St Augustine’s Church
The celebrant and preacher at Sunday week’s Holy Communion was the Rector Reverend Angela Fletcher.
St Teresa’s RC Church
Sunday week’s Morning Mass was celebrated by Canon Jonathan Cotton who also preached. The reading was given by Mrs Lynn Goff and Eucharistic Ministers were D. Pearson, F. Booth and M, Barrett. Children met in the church hall for activities and joined the main service at the offertory. Flower arrangers met for a brief meeting after the service. A Parish barbecue is planned for after the service on 16th September.
The Kabin
Members met at the Wellington Close Centre on Monday, Wednesday and Friday week for bingo, socialising and refreshments.
