Maggie Morris welcomed visitors to the recent Nite-Lite drop in sessions. Volunteers served in the Coffee Brooke café, the restore shop and at the food bank on Thursday week and Friday week mornings. Pastor P. Hellewell led PUSH on Thursday week evening. Amanda Pell led the Sunday week celebration meeting. Visiting minister, Mr Paul Dzane from Ghana spoke about his work in the community and later gave a sermon entitled, ‘God’s Ultimate.’ Ann Marie Hellewell, Tracy Engyel and Amanda Pell led the worship. A 40th birthday party with buffet was held for Richard Gray and Sarah Adams. Mr Gray was presented with a birthday cake and Ms Adams with a bouquet of flowers to mark the occasion.

Holy Trinity

The Rev June Palmer led a Holy Communion Service on Sunday week when she was assisted by Mr James Taylor. The theme of her sermon was, ‘Water.’ Bible readings were by Helen Hornsby and James Taylor. Bread and wine were taken to the altar by Mr and Mrs D. Daker. Miss Lyn Zhing took the collection. Refreshments were served after the service by Mr A. Hornsby.

Home League Secretary, Mrs Eunice Smith welcomed ladies to yesterday week’s members meeting where they had Bible readings, sang and shared refreshments. Volunteers served at four recent coffee mornings and in the charity shop. Buddies playgroup on Thursday week was supervised by Maj Ina Neill, Marian Hicks and Dorothy Plant. Jean Leadbeater organised and led the Sunshine Club members meeting on Friday week when she took as her theme, ‘Strange Place Names.’ Maj Neill was assisted by members of the congregation when she led the Sunday week Salvation meeting. The Messengers group members sang.

Tuesday Dance

Mrs M. Blakemore welcomed dancers to a sequence dance at Shirebrook Miners Welfare Social Centre yesterday week. Mrs M. Goodall organised and led the dancing. Music was provided by Mr P. Goodall.

New Bassett House

Residents are busy making Easter decorations to display around the home and are planning an Easter bonnet parade. A coffee morning was held recently where residents had a talk by staff regarding their commitment to improving nutrition and hydration. Some residents visited the hairdresser and others have played dominoes.

Early Birds ASC

Children made pictures using sweets, created Mother’s Day cards and played board games. Activities were led by Becky Fletcher and Pauline Chapman.

Mrs K. Lindsay welcomed Mesdames D. Stevenson, J. Charlesworth, G. Mee, S. Creswell, M. Mitchell, C. Benson and D. Wake to Shirebrook Village Hall yesterday week for line dancing and gentle exercise to music. Birthday cards were presented to Mary Mitchell.

Chit Chat Club

Mrs D. Gough welcomed members to Shirebrook Village Hall yesterday week where she also collected subscriptions. Members played bingo with caller Maureen Gough and held a raffle won by Doreen Gough. Refreshments were served by Mesdames A. Toon, A. Draycott and S. Garton.

Early Birds DN

Babies recently played with dolls, sponges, fish and fishing nets in water and used cooked and uncooked pasta, pots and pans for tactile play. Imaginative role play was with puppets, books and mirrors. Children also made cards for Mothering Sunday. Toddlers played with number ducks, boats, fish, dolls and sponges in water and with buckets, spades and jungle animals in sand. Pre-school children played with magnets and keys in sand, practiced writing their own names, used rhyming cards for literacy work and fishing rods and numbers in mathematics. Imaginative role play was with toy aliens and a space rocket.

Artists’ Group

Mrs B. Potter welcomed members to Shirebrook Miners Welfare Social Centre yesterday week. Refreshments were served.

A room was prepared ahead of the members meeting at Shirebrook Village Hall on Wednesday week by Eva Hayes, Diane Graves, Iris Cooke and Sylvia Garton. Mrs Gill Mee welcomed members, collected subscriptions and called the bingo. Members also played a game of Sticky 13, took part in a quiz won by Madge Griffiths and held a raffle. Refreshments were served by A. Kane, M. Griffiths, S. Creswell and N. Simons.

Happy Chat Coffee

Julie Bonsall welcomed members to Shirebrook Leisure Centre on Wednesday week where she also collected subscriptions and assisted Ross Thorndyke to serve refreshments. Table games were organised by Jo Sunderland and Dot Hindley. A birthday cake and cards were presented to Elaine Brown. Raffle winners were Ada Askew, June Crookes, Joyce Askew, Alan Tudor, David Butler, June Howl, Julie Bonsall and Jo Sunderland.

Bolsover Wellness

Julie Bonsall welcomed members on a daily basis to Shirebrook Leisure Centre Monday week to Thursday week inclusive. Members took part in chair based exercises as part of the ‘Wellness Programme.’ Details of how to access the programme are available from Julie Bonsall 748313.

Staff and Social Club

Mr M. Fletcher hosted a games night on Monday week evening. The pool match winner was Kevin Brookes with Malcolm Fletcher winning the dominoes match and James Pinnock the darts match.

Grange Care Home

Residents and staff celebrated St Patrick’s Day by wearing something green. Irish pub music was played and residents took part in a game of ‘Lucky Gold’ where they tossed coins into a bucket. Shamrock decorations were displayed around the home. On Tuesday week morning residents decorated Easter bonnets, played bingo and held a hands and nails pamper session. In the nursing lounge, residents completed word search puzzles and played dominoes. Hamilton Suite residents took part in exercises using a ball, held a watercolour painting session and looked at photographs. An Easter Fayre with a raffle for an Easter egg hamper, tombola and bric-a- brac sale is to be held 2-4pm Saturday 12th April. Activities were led by Mandy Lindley and Natasha Westwood.

Sports Club

Coach, Ross Thorndyke led activities for 15 members at Shirebrook Leisure Centre on Thursday week. Children took part in boxing – tuck and jab, gym workouts and a football knockout competition. Monies are now being collected for visits to Alton Towers in April and Liverpool Football Club in June.

Leisure Centre
Gym Tots on Thursday week morning and Sundayw eek afternoon were led by Gareth Walters. Lina Harris organised and led yesterday weeks TRX session and a recent Total Body Workout with Fitball session. Boxing Fitness on Wednesday week and Friday week evenings was led by Danny Butler.

Richmond Care Home

Residents have recently taken part in a general knowledge quiz, listened to music while creating Easter bonnets and taken part in a cookery day where they made their own pizzas. A group of residents visited the hairdresser while another group were accompanied to the local shops by Claire Seymour. Staff and residents celebrated Joan Newey’s 82nd birthday. Everyone is invited to an Easter bonnet parade at 10.30am, Friday 18th April.
