Over 50s Club

Mr R. Holmes welcomed members and friends to their meeting on Tuesday week at the Rainworth Miners Welfare. Mr C. Dodsworth was MC for dancing and spot waltz winners were Mr S. Faulkner and Mrs M. Maggio. Serving refreshments were Mrs B. Murphy and Mrs R. Dodsworth. Mr R. Holmes called bingo and ticket sellers were Mrs L. Parkin and Mrs A. Plastow. MC for dominoes was Mr J. Saunders and winners were Mrs M. Richards and Mrs J. Dodsworth. The competition winner was Mrs C. Evans and the weekly raffle was held with the prizes donated by the club (3), and Mesdames

4th Rainbows

At their meeting at SS Simon and Jude’s on Friday week Rainbows made angel decorations and small wreathes for Christmas. They played games and completed their arrangements for the Christingle service at the Methodist Church and also for their Christmas party.

Rainworth Brownies

On Friday week at the Methodist Church Brownies practised their acts for Brownies Got Talent on 13th December at the Methodist Church.

St George’s RC Church

Father Christopher Thomas led Mass on Sunday morning. Assisting him at the Altar were Andrew Storey, Andrew Frettingham and Jordon Bolton. There were readings from Andrew Frettingham and Janet Clayton and Offertory bearers were Jackie Massey, Malachi Fagan, Colin Massey, Mark Frettingham, John Storey and John Scanlon. Eucharistic Ministers were Andrew Storey and John Scanlon.

Methodist Church

On Sunday morning Judith Daykin and Allan Mosley led the service with the help of a number of the children including Arnold, Ann and Antonia Adeniji and David Bancroft Steele. Barbara Sutton read lessons and Margaret Toon played the organ for the service. Christine Daniele was the welcome steward and flowers decorating the church were donated by the family in memory of Miss Meakin. Church members visited Blidworth Methodists for their evening ‘Churches together’ and section service which was on the theme of ‘Faith and Light’ and was led by the Rev’d David Greenwood.

St Simon and Jude’s

Saturday morning’s Christmas Fayre raised £850 for church funds. On Sunday morning ‘All Age worship’ for advent Sunday was led by the Rev Hazel Robinson and Stephanie Smart. Hymns for advent were sung the Scouts led prayers. Gordon Foster played the organ. Church members have adopted a Mexican tradition this Christmas. It is known as Posada (making room for Jesus) this Christmas. It will see Mary and Joseph being hosted and welcomed into homes by local Rainworth families for an overnight stay on the run up to Christmas. Hosting families then take Mary and Jesus to the next family in turn through Advent until Christmas Eve when they are returned to the church.
