Community News - Mansfield

Borough SJA

Cadets and the adults made arrangements for the forthcoming Olympic Homecoming. Mansfield Borough St John Ambulance meet at their premises on Toothill Lane, Mansfield NG18, 1NJ. The Cadets meet from 6 - 7.30pm and the adults from 7.30 - 9pm. Anyone interested in St John Ambulance is directed to the website www.sja.org.uk

St Mary’s Church

Morning Praise was led by Val Pearce. Lessons were read by Babs Valentine, Irene Large and Derek Large. Judith Asquith gave the talk. Intercessions were led by Derek Large, Irene Large and Judith Mather. Ashley Andrews and Chris Frith were sidespersons. Babs Valentine and friends provided refreshments.

Bridge Street Meths

Worship was led by Helen Curzon on the theme of ‘Christian Perfection?’ Readings were given by Angela Pothecary and Cliff Tyers and music was played by Jan Dawes.

Old Meeting House

On Saturday week there was a coffee morning in the Old Meeting House School Rooms and four members of the congregation accompanied the minister on a sponsored walk around the churches of Newark in aid of the Nottinghamshire Historic Churches Trust. The Sunday morning service was led by the Rev Patrick Timperley. The chalice candle was lit by Annie Perry. The Minister read the story of ‘Starfish on The Beach’ from The Shortest Distance by Bill Darlison. The second reading was ‘I come in little things’ by Brenda Catherall. Catherine Wycherley sang a solo, Take This Moment. Organist was Bill Brown. Steward was Neil Fisher took the collection. Refreshments were served by Pat Cairns.

St Mark’s Church

F.Keith Hebden was c elebrant at his first Sunday Parish Eucharist having been installed as Associate Priest on Tuesday 4th September, During the service he baptisted Zayn Lacoul John Shrestha. Reader was Phil Bishop. Afterwards the Rev Valerie Sharpe led a confirmation class for young people.

St Augustine’s Church

Reader Nigel Patten led the service and preached. Jennie Shacklock and Ian Blythe read the epistle and gospel respectively. Prayers were led by Roger Walton, Sue Wilson took the offertory. Refreshments were served by Jane Carlin and Angela Walton.

Arena Church

Last Tuesday week Kristian Thorpe led a prayer walk around the town. Josh Turner led worship at Sunday week’s service at Field Mill. Speaker was Kristian Thorpe.

Diabetes UK Group

The history of Mansfield Palace Theatre was described by manager Andrew Tucker. Chairman Val Reeson expressed thanks. The next meeting is 9th October, 7.15pm.
