St Wilfrid’s Church
The Rev Wendy Patchell led Sunday week’s Holy Communion. Paul Loxston and David Ball administered the chalice. Mandy Bowen and David Ball read lessons. Prayers were by Malcolm Bowen. Alan Truman, Oliver Dodd and Gill Buxton were sidesmen. Phyllis and Eddie Newby served morning coffee.
St Thomas’ Church
The Rev Neil Popham celebrated Holy Communion on Wednesday week. The fellowship group then met followed by a shared lunch in the church hall. A Toddlers and Carers Drop-in session was held in the afternoon. The vicar manned the parish office in the evening. Mr Popham celebrated Holy Communion on Sunday week assisted by church Reader Eric Russ who gave the address and administered the chalice. Pauline Russ read lessons and prayers. Mrs Doreen Dickens played the piano. Katherine Blasdale and Joan Murray were church stewards. Julie and Any Carr served refreshments. In the evening representatives from the congregation attended the One Festival at Lincoln Showground for evening worship.
Forest Street Baptist
Pastor Derek Smith of Arnold led the morning service on Sunday week. The reader was Mrs Doreen Bell. Mr and Mrs John Hardy served morning coffee. In the evening Reverends Ros Wilkes and Roy Plant of Swanwick Baptist Church led a joint Songs of Praise at Kirkby. The organist was Miss Doreen Homer.
Church of Christ
David Wilson led the morning service on Sunday week. Rex Foster and Polite Mukange read from the Old and the New Testaments respectively. Rex Foster served communion. The speaker was Roger Longden. Tom King led the evening meeting introducing guest speaker Ken Mullen of the Ilkeston church.
Our Lady RC Church
Sunday week’s mass was taken by Father F. Higgins. The reading was by Andrew O’Mara-Winson. The offertory procession was Margaret Henson, Ralph Barratt, Katie and Rebecca Savage, Sue Tucker and Dominic Joseph Tinkling. Molly Beardsley, Kathleen Whittingham, Jim Turton, David Shipley and Mike Rogers served communion. John Fejfer and Rex Clarke took the collection. Maranatha played the music. Jerry Herrington and Cath Moulton served coffee in aid of parish funds.
Hill Methodist Church
Mother and Toddler group met on Wednesday week. The DIY group worked on the church in the evening. The Prayer group met on Saturday week. Sunday week’s morning service was a united service at the Hill where the congregation from Forest Road, Annesley Woodhouse and Trinity Methodist churches were welcomed. Music was by the Worship group. Rev Mick Dilley presided. Mr David Pursglove led the evening meeting. Gladys Dear and John Grice both read. The organist was Joy Franks.
Sue Hardy chaired Sunday week’s divine service introducing guest speaker Sue Hursthouse of Mansfield. Due to anticipated building works please contact Sue Hardy on 01623 721905 before attending any programmed activities.
Coffee Bar was open from Monday to Friday week inclusive. The centre hosted a meeting of the Forget Me Not dementia group on Monday week. From Tuesday week to Sunday week CentrePoint and CentrePoint Plus organised and held an art exhibition. Kirkby Churches Together held early prayers on Tuesday week. Barbara Rowe led the Tuesday Fellowship. Flower Arrangers met on Wednesday week. The Luncheon Club and Open Hands friendship group met on Thursday week. Open Hands were given a talk on Holistic Therapies. Trinity Singers performed at the art exhibition on Friday week. The congregation attended the joint service held at the Hill Methodist church on Sunday week.
