Methodist Church

The service on Sunday morning was led by Russ Walters and included readings from Joan Walters, Shirley Foster and Dorothy Tighe. The evening’s section service was taken by the Rev Barbara Greenwood, with readings from were Enid Marsh and David Wilmot. Mrs Marsh also played the music for both the day’s services.

Tuesday Fellowship

The meeting on Tuesday at Farnsfield St Michael’s Church was led by Frances Smith.

Friendship Club

At their meeting on Friday, club members will took a trip to Royal Crown Derby followed by a visit to the Westfield Centre. The trip was organised by Jenny Frost and 46 members took the trip and had a great day. The club’s next meeting at the Village Centre will be on Friday and will include a visit from the Woodland Trust with Gerald Price.

Flower Club

The club’s meeting on Monday was an illustrated talk by Alison Doxey called Chelsea Fun, which described her participation in the prestigious Floristry Awards at Chelsea Flower Show, where she won a silver medal. She answered members’ questions and bunches of the flowers used in her design were raffled off and won by Margaret Pulford. The club’s next meeting on 28th April at 2pm in the Lower Hall, Farnsfield Village Centre.

Horticultural Society

The society is preparing for its spring show on Saturday 12th April at the Village Centre. The schedules will be available from local shops. The event will be open to the public after 12.30pm.

Rainworth

Over 50s Club

Mr R. Holmes welcomed 79 members to their meeting on Tuesday week at the Rainworth Miners’ Welfare. Mr C. Dodsworth was the MC for dancing and the spot waltz winners were Mr and Mrs G. Green. Serving refreshments to the members were Mrs E. Baxter and Mrs M. Wood. Mr R. Holmes called the bingo and the ticket sellers were Mr and Mrs K. Cooper. The competition winner was Mrs M. Cooper. The weekly raffle was held with the prizes donated by the club, and Mesdames, R. Dodsworth, Plastow, Cooper, Dean, Biggs, Newberry, Haggarty, Blanc, Bakewell, Clipston, Purdey, Maggio, Clarke, Prior, Brailsford, Millward, Jackson, Fell, Jukes, and Baxter.There are currently membership opportunities available, anyone interested should call in on Tuesday afternoons.

4th Rainbows

Rainbows met at SS Simon and Jude’s on Friday evening when they talked about their forthcoming visit to Blidworth Fire Station. They also coloured a picture showing what clothes a fireman wears. They made ‘footprints’ and wrote in them the sort of things they like doing at Rainbows and then they put them on the noticeboard. They also managed time for games and action songs.

U3A Group

The group, which meets every second Wednesday in the month at Rainworth Village Hall, between 10am-noon, met on Wednesday morning when around 100 members and visitors attended. The speaker was Dr Ian Campbell on the subject of “You are what you eat” (A practical guide to healthy nutrition). More interest groups were proposed, and the chairman Jennie Roberts thanked the committee for its hard work. The website is now up and running and it is hoped that the newsletter and other information will be online soon. The next meeting is at 10am on 9th April. The meetings are open to all who are no longer in full-time employment

Methodist Church

The weekly Slimming World group met on Tuesday with the Weight Watcher group and Rainworth Leisure Artist group meeting on Wednesday. Bible study and fellowship this week were hosted by Judith and Mick Daykin. The uniformed Guides, Rainbow and Brownie groups met on Friday evening. On Saturday, the Mansfield Artist Group met with the regular coffee morning also taking place. On Sunday morning, Holy Communion was led by the Rev David Greenwood who, during the service, formed a duet playing the guitar with resident musician Margaret Toon, who played the organ. There were readings from Pat Holmes and John Bretton and the Sunday school group was supervised by Vanessa Lewin and Alan Mosley. Welcoming churchgoers to the service was Christine Daniel. For their evening service, church members visited Farnsfield Methodists for their section service led by the Rev Barbara Greenwood.

SS Simon and Jude’s

Morning Prayer services on both Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday’s Holy Communion were led by the Rev Clare Tyack. Wednesday evening saw the first in the series of lent courses being led by the Rev Tyack and Marilyn Brown. The next one will be today on the theme, Sacramental Prayer. On Thursday, Stephanie Smart and Marilyn Brown were on hand for Vestry hour. The regular weekly coffee mornings were held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings and on Sunday Morning Prayer was led by Marilyn Brown with the Rev Tyack presenting a sermon. Music during the service was played by Gordon Foster. Readers were Sandy Wilson, Grahame O’Keefe and John Robinson. Prayers were led by the Joan Foster. Church members were advised that Evensong at the Minster is planned for Friday 11th April at 5.45pm with the focus of the prayers on the United Benefice. Afternoon tea at a cost of £6.25 has been booked at Holly beck Garden Centre Tea Room for 3.30pm and everyone will go together to the Minster afterwards.

Pensioners’ Club

On Monday week, the meeting was opened by Mrs M. Brailsford. Mrs K. White, Mrs J. Pitt and Mrs M. Wood served the members with refreshments. Tickets were sold by Mrs J. Dodsworth and Mr H. Alcock called the bingo. Mrs M. Cooper organised and called the quiz and the winner was Mrs S. Layland. Bingo winners were Mesdames J. Pitt, B. Creasey, S. Layland, M. Cope, A. Farr, M. Underwood, and K. Cooper. Raffle winners were Mesdames J. Dodsworth, M. Wood, F. Meakin, M. Cope, A. Farr, M. Underwood, and Mr H. Alcock. Members also celebrated the birthday of Mrs J. Musson.

St Andrew’s Church

The Morning Prayer services were held on Monday and Wednesday led by the Rev Hazel Robinson who also led Wednesday’s morning Communion. Followed by a short service in the chapel Vestry Hour is a time for when people can book weddings, ask for banns to be read, book baptisms or who would just like to pop in and talk to the clergy. It is held at St Andrew’s on Wednesdays from 6-7pm and this week was led by Angela Penny. There is a special Mothering Sunday United Benefice service at the church on 30th March at 10am, everyone welcome.

St Mary’s Church

Holy Communion on Sunday morning was led by the Rev Hazel Robinson, with Gordon Foster playing the music during the service. The Rev Clare Tyack gave the sermon and there were readings from Angela Penny, Sharon Winders and Stephen Fox. Stephanie Smart led the prayers.

Methodist Church

The Artist group met at the church on Tuesday. A Churches Together Lent course has been planned for Blidworth and Rainworth between 7 8.30pm on five Wednesday evenings throughout Lent. The church hosts the course on 2nd April when the theme is ‘Contemplative Prayer’. Karen O’Hara led the weekly prayer group at the church on Thursday and on Sunday morning the service was led by David Pollitt and Steve Cree. Readings were given by Tracey Long and music during the service was pre-recorded. Welcoming members to the service was Ann Daines and Karen O’Hara and Rebeccah Widowson led the Sunday school. Church members attended the evening section service at Farnsfield Methodist church.

Walking Group

David Smith led a 4.5-mile walk from the village of Farnsfield to Edingley and back along the Southwell Trail on Sunday and was attended by 16 people. The walk attracted three new walkers. The walks are free and the Sunday walk details are sent via text on a Saturday evening. To be included, leave a name and mobile number on 07703631816

Patient Participation

The group is planning to hold regular events to take place on the fourth Monday of each month.

Kirklington

St Swithin’s

Morning Prayer on Sunday was led by Margaret Groves with David Hutchison playing the music during the service. Dr David Bird and Margaret Robinson read lessons. The next service at the church will be for Mothering Sunday and will be held at 3.30pm. Following the service refreshments will be served in the village hall.

Parish Communion on Sunday morning was led by the Rev David McCullough and included readings from Beverley Perks and the Rev McCullough. Music for the service was played by Dr Alec Wells. Following the service, the annual meeting of the church council took place and Bev Perks and Caroline Haddelsey were both elected church wardens.

Edingley

Edingley Village

The Edingley Daffodil festival on 5th/6th April, from 11am-4pm, at The Old Schoolroom, Edingley. Refreshments and cream teas will be served. Various competitions involving Daffodils, Best Garden Daffodil Display (to include allotments), Daffodil in a pot, Painting, Photography, 3D Daffodil will be judged during the weekend.
