Eakring

St Andrew’s Church

Family service on Sunday week was led by Lay Reader Joan Wood from Farnsfield, with a talk by Lay Reader Heather Brown. Prayers were by Sue Wilson and Linda Goldby read a poem. Bible readings were by Malcolm Goodall and Margaret Coupland. Organist was John White. Children’s activities were supervised by Tracey Lowe. Refreshments were served afterwards by Sue Wilson and Malcolm Goodall.

Bilsthorpe

Ladies Running Club

Throughout January many members attended the 5K park runs held every Saturday at 9am in Clumber Park and Mansfield, with personal bests from Sally Woodhead 27:38, Jennifer Wallis 27:45, Kirsty Cook 28:55, Cathie Babbington 29:11, Sam Straw 29:59, Emma Brown 32:03, Sharon Fidler 33:28 and Fran Sisson 34:01. The remainder of January’s training sessions consisted of speed work and hill repeats with a maximum of nine miles run on the Sunday meetings. Club chairman Cathie Babbington hosted a spa night for nine members for the tapering week of January.

Green Centre

Chairman David Ramsdale welcomed 17 members to Tuesday week’s meeting. Raffle winners were Francis Cooper and Mary Hughes. Eighteen members were welcomed to Friday week’s meeting. Raffle winners were Francis Cooper and Edna Sawyer. Refreshments were served by committee members David Ramsdale. Celia Smith and Maureen Abbott. Bingo caller for both sessions was Celia Smith.

Short Mat Bowls

Eight members attended the session held on Thursday week in the Village Hall. Raffle winner was Danny Ashwell.

Over 50s Club

Chairman David Ramsdale welcomed 41 members to Wednesday week’s meeting in the Village Hall. Dance MC was John Cordon and bingo caller was David Ramsdale. Refreshments were served by Jan Jones. Members joined in a horse racing-themed game arranged by Marion Sentence, Katie Towle and Brian Charlesworth. A general knowledge quiz arranged by Bill Lamb was won by Margaret Heath. Winners of the chocolate dance were Colin and Heather Fell. Twenty-two raffle prizes were won by Marni Shah, Margaret Lamb, Jean Higgins, Marion Towle, Hazel Bryan, Denis Teather, Christine Benn, Monica Powell, Jill Olley, Connie Roberts, Rex Powell, Brenda Wilderspin, Jan Jones, John Booth, Barbara Marson, Margaret Heath, Sheila Corden, Ken Booth, Janet Knight, Wilson Bryan and Margaret Coupland.

Burton Court Centre

Chairman Sandra Morton welcomed 14 members to Tuesday week’s meeting. Raffle winner was John Swallow. Eighteen members were welcomed to Thursday week’s meeting. Raffle winners were Sheila Cottrill and Kath Taylor. Refreshments were served by committee members and helpers.Bingo caller for both sessions was Sandra Morton.

St Margaret’s Church

Morning Family service Sunday week was led by Lay Reader Joan Wood for Eakring and Lay Reader Heather Brown from Eakring. This was a special monthly service to include the Congregation and children. Joan Wood told a story about who we are and how we are all different children drew pictures of themselves. Readings were by Jacqueline Stafford and Elaine Smith. Heather Brown led the prayers. Hospitality greeter was Jenny Elston. The choir sang a Candlemas anthem arranged by choir master and organist Derek Reaney. Refreshments were served afterward by John Olley and Fred Brown. Sandra Burrows provided a cake as a celebration for her birthday.
