Pensioners’ Club

On Monday week, the meeting was opened by Mrs M. Brailsford. Mrs B. Creasey, Mrs M. Wood and Mrs K. White served the members with refreshments. Tickets were sold by Mrs J. Dodsworth and Mr H. Alcock called the bingo. A quiz was organised and called Mrs M. Cooper and the winner was Mrs J Dodsworth. Bingo winners were Mesdames J. Davies, P. Smart, F. Meakin, M. Brailsford, M. Richards, J. Smith, P. Hutton, T. Jukes, and Mr I. Smith. Raffle winners were Mesdames R. Dodsworth, M. Cooper, T. Jukes, J. Smith, M. Simpson, and Messrs L. Creasey and A. Musson. Members also celebrated the birthdays of Mrs E. Haggarty and Mrs R. Dodsworth.

St Andrew’s Church

Morning prayer took place on Monday and Wednesday mornings with Holy Communion.

On Wednesday, vestry hour was led as usual by Angela Penny. Tuesday bingo with Stephen took place on Tuesday afternoon.

The church hosted communion on Sunday week for the joint benefice churches of St Mary’s and St Simon and Jude’s.

The service was led by Marilyn Brown and Stephanie Smart gave the sermon. Stephen Fox led prayers.

The service was followed by Sunday lunch.

St Mary’s

Marilyn Brown led the morning service, which included readings from the Old Testament from Vivienne Tansy. New Testament readings were from Mary Harris and John Robinson read from the Gospel. Sharon Winders gave the sermon with the Rev Hazel Robinson leading prayers. Gordon Foster played the organ.

Later a packed church saw the Rev Robinson and Rev Tyack lead the ‘Tree of memories’ service with Mr Foster again playing the organ.

The service on Christmas Eve was led by the Rev Hazel Robinson and Stephanie Smart. There was a collection in aid of the Children’s Society.

Methodist Church

Christmas week services at the church included a healing communion and a children’s nativity, both led by the Rev David Greenwood.

The nativity was followed by a faith lunch. A carol service held around the tree was held on Christmas Eve afternoon and this was followed by refreshments and mince pies.

A Christmas communion service followed in the evening. Sunday week’s morning service was led by the Rev David Greenwood.
