THE South Normanton Children Centre has officially opened with a fun-packed launch event for youngsters and their families.
Based at the The Hub on Shiners Way, the centre welcomed more than 130 children and parents to a drop-in session.
The centre has been open in South Normanton since April 2008, and was based at South Normanton Nursery School before it moved to The Hub in February.
It provides advice and support on a range of subject including health, parenting and benefits for local families, while it also hosts play groups, a ready for nursery group, a breastfeeding group, a well-baby clinic and baby group.
Coun Barry Lewis, Derbyshire County Council’s cabinet member for young people, said: “There are a range of groups and sessions to meet every need and the variety of activities offered help children develop and socialise before they are old enough for nursery or school.”
Coun Pam Reddy, cabinet support member for young people, performed the official opening.
The authority has 54 children’s centres. Each centre is designed to meet the needs of the communities it serves.
