A Mansfield Woodhouse hairdresser’s is the talk of the town after being named The Chad Salon of the Year for the second time.

Chatty’s, on Cox’s Lane, beat off five other finalists for their 2015 title - giving them another award to put next to their 2014 plaque.

Accepting the award, owners Katy Pepper and Charlotte Mallatratt were both grateful for the support of the community.

Katy, 41, from Mansfield Woodhouse, who is currently styling a short pastel-grey haircut, couldn’t believe they had won again.

She said: “It’s brilliant. We’ve only been open 18 months - so to win it twice is just something else.

“But people keep coming here because like the name suggests - we are chatty.

“Everybody likes to come here because it’s a home-from-home.

“They love the atmosphere, they love the chat, and more than anything, they like their hair when they’ve gone.”

Katy and Charlotte worked together for 17 years before deciding to go business together in January 2014.

“We’re like Yin and Yang,” said Katy, who also admitted that she is the tough one out of the two.

“We are both so different but work really well together - so we knew Chatty’s would be a great idea.”

The name ‘Chatty’s’ is a combination of their names.

Charlotte, 36, from Mansfield Woodhouse, said: “We wanted something a bit more cosy and catchy - and then Katy had this brilliant idea.

“But to win the award again is just amazing.

“It’s so nice to see the community sticking together.”

The staff at Chatty’s also do what they can to give back into the community by raising money for charity.

At their most recent event, the women raised more than £500 for prostate cancer by having topless waiters, raffles and cakes.

Charlotte said: “With us being a ladies-only salon, we thought we would do something for the men because we all have them in our lives.”

Customers at the salon can get colours, foils, conditioning treatment and perms - but some people just go in for a trim and a chat.

From newborns, to ladies aged 80+, Katy says they are busy with every type of customer.

And by popular demand, Chatty’s next free Saturday appointment is eight weeks away.

Katy said: “It is just a lovely atmosphere in here.

“Every day is different, but we do have a good laugh and that’s important when you work together.”

“I enjoy coming to work every day to be with customers who are our friends and of course, working with Charlotte, Beth and Jess.”
