DISABLED youngsters will soon be able to get more out of Pleasley Vale Outdoor Activity Centre thanks to a £93,500 cash boost.
Bolsover District Council has secured funding from Government-backed Aiming High for Disabled Children Fund to create disabled access facilities around the centre’s pond.
Council leader and district councillor Eion Watts said: “One of the key issues we have always wanted to sort out was the lack of access for disabled users to the site and this grant provides us with the opportunity to address this.”
The centre, off Outgang Lane, was expanded recently by refurbishing a derelict building into offices, classrooms and changing facilities and does offer disabled access.
However, the pond and water based activities do not.
The grant will see the jetty lengthened, an associated boat ramp installed with a floating pontoon and there will be a hoist for disabled users with better access.
The council is hoping to complete the scheme by the end of March.
