MANSFIELD’S Cantamus girls choir teamed up with top professional soloists at Westminster church St John’s last Saturday to present The Lotus and the Rose - a concert celebrating East and West.
It featured celebrated cellist Rohan de Saram and operatic soprano Kishani Jayasinghe, both from Sri Lanka, pianist Julian Clef and tanpura player Jonathan Mayer, both from India.
The night concluded with a work called Krishna and the Gopis, which was composed specially for Cantamus by John Mayer, and premiered in London in 1987 after the choir won the BBC Choir of the Year title.
John was killed in a road accident some time later and this concert was dedicated to his memory.
After a concert in Grimsby Central Hall on Saturday, the girls will be performing at Southwell Minster on 17th December, Mansfield’s Palace Theatre on 18th December and the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, on Friday 23rd December.
