A CALLOUS thief stole a bicycle from a car park at King’s Mill Hospital as its teenageowner was inside with his dying father.
The 15-year-old had been out cycling with family and friends at Sherwood Pines, near Edwinstowe, when his dad was taken ill.
Police say that while his father was airlifted to King’s Mill, the teenager was taken there by paramedics - while friends attached his mountain bike to the roof of their car before also travelling to the hospital.
But while the youngster was being told his father had died, a heartless thief detached the expensive bike from the car and rode off on it.
The incident happened at around 1pm on Tuesday 5th June and has sickened detectives investigating the theft - who have described the person responsible as ‘a heartless coward’.
Sgt Steve Brownley, from Ashfield North Neighbourhood Team, said: “This is an appalling and shameful crime committed as the owner was with his dying father.
“To then find out this has happened when you are already dealing with the death of a loved one just adds to the trauma.
“The heartless coward responsible needs to be brought to justice.
“There will have been other people in the hospital car park who may have seen the suspect as he detached the bike.
“If you did, or if you have any information about where the bike is, please contact police immediately.”
Detectives say the bike stolen was a Marin Wolf Ridge 6.7 mountain bike, which is a pictured above.
