A NEW café has opened with the help of a grant scheme set up by Mansfield District Council to rid the town of empty shop premises.
Time Café Bar in the Four Seasons Shopping Centre was officially opened by Mansfield mayor Tony Egginton.
It is run by Time Food Services Ltd, a Sheffield-based business, which signed up for the council’s Empty Shop Grant scheme.
The scheme offered awards of up to £5,000 to new retail businesses wanting to take up vacant units in Mansfield, Mansfield Woodhouse or Warsop.
The café received the maximum amount, which will be used to buy equipment, while 15 new jobs will be created.
Café owner Wayne Fenton said: “One of the things which made Mansfield so attractive to us was the fact that the council supports local businesses.
“This gave us a lot of confidence to take a risk. The grant we received through the scheme was important, but this is not just about money.”The grant scheme has now ended, however, there ia still a £250 cashback scheme for exsiting tenants who refer a new business to the council that results in a letting of vacant business premises.
Also, £500 is available for new tenants at any of the council’s four Business Places, with a £1,000 for businesses taking on new leases at vacant commercial properties.
