ASHFIELD MP Gloria De Piero and council leader John Knight are to offer themselves up for a dinner date to one lucky couple.
The innovative idea aims to raise awareness about beating cancer and funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust charity.
The dinner night takes place at Sutton’s Cafe Ilachi, on King Street, on a yet to be confirmed date and will be sold off to the highest bidder and their partner.
Coun John Knight said he hoped to raise further awareness and belief that cancer could finally be beaten.
“I honestly believe that with the right funding and effort, in 20 years’ time we will look back on most cancers in the same way we now look back at Polio or tuberculosis,” he said.
“And that is as a once deadly killers that have been all but eradicated in Britain.”
Ashfield MP Gloria De Piero said she was delighted to be backing the event.
She said: “Cancer is a disease that strikes us with fear as soon as we hear the word, but hopefully one day it won’t always be like that.
“In Ashfield everyone always get behind charitable events whenever they can and I’m hoping that this event will be no different.
“As soon as John asked me if I’d help with his fundraising effort the answer was only ever going to be yes.
“Now I honestly have no idea what price you can place on our company, but on a serious note, what I do know is that it is for a terrific cause – so if you’d like to spend an evening in the New Year with myself and John and more importantly wonderful food and drink then get bidding and lets raise as much money as we can. Together we can do our bit to try and beat this terrible disease.”
