Companies looking to move into or expand within Newark and Sherwood now have access to a dedicated website.
The website, www.investnewarkandsherwood.co.uk also provides details about ‘Think BIG’, the £2m fund set up by the council to encourage business growth within the district.
Think BIG - the Business Investment for Growth fund - helps to raise working capital to finance business growth. Loans can be provided to existing businesses that don’t meet the banks’ lending criteria but are able to demonstrate they have a viable proposition for growth. Loans range from around £25,000 to £150,000 and are available to existing small and medium-sized businesses in Newark and Sherwood. As a guideline, those supported would ideally have more than five employees and a turnover of more than £500,000.
Newark and Sherwood District Council created the fund to encourage business growth within the district and it is being managed by a team of professional risk finance specialists on the council’s behalf.
The loan fund is part of wider plan to stimulate economic growth in all business sectors and in particular those where there is existing strength and future potential, including engineering, information and communications technologies, logistics, food processing, and low carbon technologies.
Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council and cabinet member for Strategy and Prosperity, Councillor Roger Blaney, said: “This new website is the gateway for businesses to really see what Newark and Sherwood can offer them as a commercial destination. As a local authority, it is our top priority to make this district prosperous so we’re investing not only in the new website, but in business opportunities through the Think BIG fund.”
Other help offered by the new ‘Invest Newark and Sherwood’ service include a commercial property search facility, support with recruitment, training and apprenticeships, general help and advice to businesses wishing to grow and expand and to potential investors.
Invest Newark and Sherwood is working closely with partners and has recently installed 22 vinyl display images onto windows on both sides of the Boyes store in Newark.
The vinyls feature local businesses and promote the new Invest Newark and Sherwood to engage the local community on what is happening in the district. As well as making the area more visually appealing it is hoped they will also boost footfall from shoppers.
