Teenagers proved they have a head for business once again as the third Junior Enterprise competition was celebrated in Mansfield.

The competition, run as a partnership between the Mansfield Learning Partnership and Mansfield 2020, gave students from schools across Ashfield and Mansfield the chance to create their own business and sell their products to the general public.

Schools involved included All Saints’ Catholic Voluntary Academy, Brunts Academy, Garibaldi College, Kirkby College, Manor Academy, Meden School and Shirebrook Academy.

They came up with a range of products from soft furnishings, to false nails, bath bombs, mugs, name plates, bird feeders, t-shirts, loom bands and artwork.

And it was not just secondary school pupils involved, as young pupils from the area’s primary schools were tasked with coming up with business plans.

More than 100 people were at the awards ceremony at Mansfield Civic Centre, including youngsters and their families.

Berni Dickinson, director of the Mansfield Learning Partnership, said: “This year’s competition was fantastic and it was wonderful to see all of the young people who were involved.

“This competition is a testament to the partnership working we have in Mansfield, local businesses supported each team to bring their ideas to life, and it will give these young people something to really be proud of and take into the future.’

“I’d like to thank all of the schools, businesses and the young people who made this event possible for this, our 3rd year, and I look forward to making it bigger and better next year!”
