TWO leaders of the Mansfield-based UDM union who are accused of stealing almost £150,000 from a charity for sick and elderly miners will stand trial in March.
Former UDM president Neil Greatrex (60) and Mick Stevens (59), ex-general secretary of the union in Nottinghamshire, deny 14 charges of theft.
They asked for the trial to be held in another part of the country but the request was denied on Monday and the trial will take place at Nottingham Crown Court from 19th March.
They were both trustees of the Nottinghamshire Miners’ Home charity, set up to run a convalescent home at Chapel St Leonards in Lincolnshire.
Greatrex, from Stanley, near Teversal, and Stevens, of Rufford Park, Newark, were both granted bail.
