Safety visits to building sites

HEALTH and safety experts will be visiting locations at Bolsover and across Derbyshire as part of a month-long inspection initiative aiming to reduce accidents and illness on construction sites.

The initiative by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is intended to highlight to those working in construction that poor safety standards are unacceptable and remind them of possible repercussions.

Figures show that during 2010/11, nearly 40 serious injuries occurred on construction sites in Derbyshire, with three deaths and 188 serious injuries across the East Midlands as a whole.

The project has been welcomed by David Urpeth, national head of workplace injury at legal firm Irwin Mitchell.
