MANSFIELD-BASED company Crystal Knitwear has recently been kitted out with new machinery thanks to some help from a Government scheme.
Westminster’s Regional Growth Fund, which invests in local businesses to promote economic growth within the area, provided £10,000 for the town’s only remaining knitwear manufacturer.
The investment comes after the Pelham Street business saw demand for traditionally made British knitwear increase overseas, particularly in Japan and the United States.
The money led to the delivery recently of £70,000 of fully automated flat bed knitting machines.
Bosses say they offer the firm a variety of weights and knitting structures plus the capability to produce fully fashioned garments.
“We feel our company is going from strength to strength at the moment,” said Chris Bingley, a partner in the company.
“This exciting news follows the business being awarded runner up in the Retailer of the Year award at the Chad business awards in November for our School Uniform Factory Shop and pledging two new apprenticeships this year - one of which will be training on the latest state of the art kitting machinery.”
