A MARCH will take place through Mansfield on Saturday to protest about rising youth unemployment and bank bail-outs.
The demonstration is being organised by the Mansfield and North Derbyshire Socialist Party and Youth Fight for Jobs, a campaigning group behind the Jarrow March 2011 which came through the town last month.
Marchers will gather in the Market Place at 11am before heading to the former Shoe Co site on Stockwell Gate, which campaigners say is a perfect place to find jobs for young people.
Karen Seymour, from the Mansfield and North Derbyshire Socialist Party, said: “Around the Shoe Co site are houses in need of repair and upgrade. This could create many jobs. If more people were in work, there would be more spent in local shops and services.”
The march comes ahead of next Wednesday’s strike by public sector workers, which is set to be the most widespread industrial action in a generation.
More than two million teachers, civil servants and other workers will go on strike in their dispute with the Government over pensions.
On the day of the strike next Wednesday, Mansfield’s Making It! Discovery Centre is opening its interactive galleries to families so children don’t miss a day of education. Email firstname.lastname@example.org with the number of tickets needed and a contact.
