King’s Mill Trust boss resigns
Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust chairman, Tracey Doucet, who has resigned.
THE chairman of the trust which runs King’s Mill Hospital has resigned in a letter to its governors, it was revealed over the weekend.
Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust chairman Tracy Doucet has described the situation within the trust as ‘a very challenging environment’.
She said: “I have enjoyed being Chairman of the Trust immensely; I feel that real progress has been made in building the strong foundations required to achieve our ‘Best care’ vision and in working together with our wider stakeholders to understand the scale and size of the challenge we face in meeting the financial challenges ahead.
Most importantly of all, as a Foundation Trust we have developed high quality services which better meet the health needs of our local communities, delivered from terrific hospitals.
“Whilst there are undoubtedly more challenges ahead, there is also very much to be proud of, in particular the collective achievements in improving services and the quality of care delivered to our patients. I know that the staff at the Trust will continue together on this journey over the coming months.”
The news comes two weeks after Monitor, the independent regulator of NHS Foundation Trusts, announced it was preparing to intervene in the running of the hospital.
Monitor’s chief operating officer, Stephen Hay, said: “Monitor has stepped in because the Trust’s financial performance has deteriorated.”
The watchdog says that the trust, which also runs the hospital in Newark, is struggling to meet Private Finance Initiative (PFI) repayments for King’s Mill Hospital, six years after a £320m PFI expansion at King’s Mill was launched.
John Marsh, lead governor at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said in a statement to the BBC: “The council of governors is extremely sorry to have lost someone who we considered to be the most able chairman the trust has ever had.
“We are grateful for the energy invested and the huge contribution that Tracy has made over the last five years. We will be sad to see her move on.”
