THE jury has been sent out to consider its verdict in the trial of a Sutton man accused of repeatedly raping a teenage girl.
Mark Sheldon (38), of Cornmill Road, Sutton, has pleaded not guilty to 11 counts of sexual activity with a teenage girl during a four-year period.
In his summing up of the trial at Nottingham Crown Court today (Monday), Judge James Sampson told the jury that they had to be sure that Sheldon had committed the alleged offences in order to be able to find him guilty.
He said that the delay in the girl making the complaint against Sheldon did not mean that the alleged offences did not happen, while the jury should also consider that he is a man of good character, with no previous convictions.
The jury is now deliberating.
