Four awards for Alfreton butcher

In the run up to British Sausage Week, 5th-11th November, Alfreton butcher Owen Taylor & Sons has picked up four prestigious awards for its bangers.

They entered the BPEX Foodservice ‘Pork Sausage of the Year’ competition, which has been recognising and rewarding the best sausages served in pubs, restaurants, hotels and canteens for a decade.

This year, judges evaluated 200 entries across the competition’s five categories - Traditional Pork Sausage, Speciality Pork Sausage, Best Pub Pork Sausage, Best Innovative Pork Sausage and Iconic British Banger.

Owen Taylor & Sons was awarded gold in the Iconic British Banger category, earning high praise from the judges for its ‘Dambuster Banger’. In addition, they received a silver award for a ‘Tomato & Chorizo Sausage’ in the Best Innovative Pork Sausage category, as well as a further two bronze awards.

“These accolades are highly sought after and show off the range of sausages, made with quality assured pork, available today,” said BPEX foodservice trade manager, Tony Goodger.

“Sausages are a key feature of any menu, loved by customers of all ages, so we are incredibly encouraged to see such an impressive selection for them to choose from when eating out.

“This year’s competition was very difficult to judge due to the high standard of entries.

It is clear there has been much innovation in the sector, with many entries wowing the judges – not least the four entries from Owen Taylor & Sons.

Our congratulations go to everyone at the butchers on their awards and we hope they go on to celebrate British Sausage Week and their success in sizzling style.”
