Family firm up for prestigious award

A MANSFIELD firm has been shortlisted in the Manufacturing Excellence category of this year’s Family Business Awards.

BM Catalysts is one of 46 family businesses which has made the final cut for next month’s awards event

Organisers, The Wilson Organisation, have labelled the event ‘the most competitive year yet’ for the not-for-profit awards. It is the first year the Family Business Awards has featured a manufacturing excellence category, with BM Catalysts making the shortlist thanks to their appointment of managing director Toby Massey, the third generation of the family to lead the business.

Chairman and former MD John Massey took the company from being a local fast fit operation and turned it into Europe’s largest independent manufacturer of aftermarket catalytic converters.

In April, control was passed to his son, Toby, who had spent a decade as commercial director. Toby’s grandfather Eric Massey founded the company in 1966.

The award rounds off an excellent year for BM Catalysts, which reported strong increases in sales and exports in the first quarter of 2012, followed by a positive response to the launch of its new premium product range.

Toby Massey said: “We are proud of our family heritage and this award sums up what BM Catalysts is all about. We look forward to inviting the judges to see why we deserve this accolade.”

The overall winners in each category will be announced at a dinner at Leicester’s Curve on Thursday 8th November. Proceeds from the 2012 Awards will go to The Prince’s Trust.
