NOTTINGHAMSHIRE County Council has stepped in to provide a bus service to enable elderly shoppers get into and out of Mansfield more easily.
The moves follows a gap left in local bus services after some recent commercial bus timetable changes in the Garth Road area of Mansfield which left many elderly local people without a direct service to the town and facing a long walk to the nearest bus stop.
The County Council’s service 19 to Berry Hill has been extended to the Garth Road area to provide an off-peak shoppers’ service, beginning from next Monday (August 6).
“Following a number of requests I am pleased to that we have been able to secure a replacement service for the Garth Road area,” said Mark Hudson, Nottinghamshire County Council’s group manager for transport and travel services.
“This will be an extension of the current service 19 operated by Doyles Coaches and will serve Atkin Lane, High Oakham Hill and Garth Road.
“The service will commence on Monday and will operate on a hail and ride basis along this route.”
