Council signs leisure deal

MANSFIELD district’s five leisure centres will be managed by a private firm, council leaders confirmed last week.

Bosses are promising extra investment in facilities after announcing the 10-year contract with Serco Leisure.

Mansfield’s Water Meadows Swimming and Fitness Complex, Oak Tree Leisure Centre, River Maun Recreation Centre and Rebecca Adlington Swimming Centre, as well as Meden Sports Centre at Warsop, will be managed by the company from Tuesday.

Coun Philip Shields, portfolio holder for the environment at Mansfield District Council, said: “The decision has not been taken lightly.”

The partnership agreement means the centres will be managed by Mansfield District Leisure Trust, and Serco Leisure, which bosses say has 20 years’ experience, will act as managing agent.
