A apprentice at a Huthwaite-based construction company has been shortlisted for a top industry award thanks to the bright start he has made to his construction career.
Simon Reeve (24), from Mansfield, started as an apprentice at North Midland Construction (NMC) two years ago and works within NMC Nomenca - the company’s mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control and automation (MEICA) contracting arm - on a Severn Trent contract.
Now Simon has been shortlisted in the Apprentice of the Year category of the Construction News Specialist Awards, after being nominated by his line manager Lee Pearson and said he was ‘surprised and happy’.
Lee, contracts manager at NMC Nomenca, said: “Simon’s attitude and commitment are second to none and he has really grasped his apprenticeship with both hands.
“Simon has already made his mark at NMC, developing solid and effective relationships with clients. He has a very bright future ahead of him and we all wish him the best of luck with the next stage of the awards process.”
For the next stage of the process Simon will face a panel of judges in London where he will make a presentation and answer questions.
He said: “It’s very rewarding to know the work I’m doing has been recognised. NMC has given me a fantastic start to my career with close mentoring and training to develop my skills, which I’m always keen to make the most of.
“The next stage of the award process is a little daunting, but I know I have the support of my manager and colleagues so I’ll do my very best to impress the judges!”
Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 14th March at the Hilton in London.
