Hundreds of visitors queued in Bolsover last weekend to have their car boot bargains and family heirlooms valued by TV antiques expert Charles Hanson.

Stall holders selling a variety of collectable goods filled the streets, with some reporting their busiest day of trading ever at Bolsover Antiques & Collectors Fair on Sunday.

The event will be followed in a few weeks, when thousands of visitors and TV crews will descend on Bolsover Castle to film the most famous of TV antiques programmes – the BBC Antiques Roadshow.

The first visitor to have her valuables analysed by BBC’s Charles Hanson, presenter of Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip, was Susan Turford, pictured with Charles, who queued for three and half hours.

A Victorian Royal Sussex Regiment military hat dated 1885 to 1890 was one of the rarest valuables uncovered, brought in by Jean Dance from Doncaster.

Charles Hanson, who runs Hansons Auctioneers and Valuers in Etwall, said: “It was wonderful to see many people gathering in Bolsover to both bring and buy such a wide variety of antiques and collectable items. I really enjoyed the event and I’ll certainly be back in Bolsover again.”

The event was one of a series of Discover Bolsover events coming in 2015, developed following a successful bid for European Regional Development funding by Bolsover District Council.
