Bolsover District Council has been highly commended by the Local Government Chronicle at its annual awards.
The council was a finalist in the Economic Development category and received the accolade for the business support it provides to local businesses and its innovative approach to attracting new business to the District.
Bolsover District Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Coun Tomlinson said: “This is the first time we have entered these awards and to be highly commended, we feel is a great achievement.
“We have done a great deal of work over the past couple of years in terms of regeneration, helping to support local businesses and attracting big business to the area and it is great to receive recognition like this.”
The council, which was up against some of the biggest authorities and cities in the UK including Glasgow, Sheffield, Birmingham and Essex, was finally beaten by Wirral Council for its Wirral Investment Strategy.
In the past year alone Bolsover District Council has secured some major developments and big names such as the Co-op Distribution Centre, Tesco, and The Tangent and SportsDirect.com, both at Brook Park Shirebrook, which will create more than 1,000 jobs.
Emma Maier, LGC’s editor, said of the award winners, “It is testament to the spirit, determination and commitment of local government, and the people who work in it, that despite this enormously challenging time, you have continued to innovate and achieve. To deliver first class local services.”
