Baggaley project manager shortlisted for national award

Project managing the building of an award-winning new cemetery and crematorium could lead to Baggaley Construction’s Christian White clinching a major award himself.

The senior project manager has been shortlisted in the category of New Build and Refurbishment Projects valued at between £2m and £7m as part of the CIOB Construction Manager of the Year Awards 2012.

Christian, who has risen through the ranks since first joining Baggaley as an apprentice joiner in 1994, has been shortlisted for his role as project manager at the Wyre Forest Crematorium and Cemetery, near Kidderminster.

The project saw the creation of a modern crematorium facility with offices, a chapel and a floral tribute area. The landscaped areas are surrounded by memorial gardens with ponds and fully-landscaped burial grounds with associated roads, parking facilities and paths.

Christian commented: “It’s great to be shortlisted for the award and I’m proud that the project was so successful but as far as I’m concerned, I aim to meet client expectations on every project I am involved with.”

Christian will find out if he has won the title when he attends a glittering awards evening being hosted by the Chartered Institute of Building at the Marriott Grosvenor Hotel, Park Lane, London on November 1, 2012.

Baggaley managing director Phil Askin commented: “Throughout his work, Christian demonstrates an ability to consistently deliver projects of the highest quality and exceed our clients’ aspirations.

“As the shortlisting process for the awards included a written submission, site visits and an interview, getting to the final is an achievement in itself, but I am confident that he can take the top award.”

Following his three-year apprenticeship, Christian subsequently moved into site management, working on projects ranging up to £5m, becoming Senior Project Manager in 2012.
