A new store in Mansfield has seen almost 300 people apply for seven positions.

The PerfectHome store, which opened on Thursday, selected the magnificent seven new-starters from a pool of 289 applicants as unemployed folk from across the area battled it out for a job.

The seven successful candidates began their new roles by hosting a “Family Fun Day” event for members of the public at the Four Seasons Shopping Centre on Thursday and Friday - with a perfect treat for Dr Who fans, a guest appearance from a Dalek.

Store manager Michelle Drury (51) said: “As I’m from this town, I’m very pleased to be able to lead a fantastic new team which will provide some great new product ranges.”

Sally Winterton (44), is another new-starter at the Mansfield store and was shocked when she found out how competitive the seven positions were.

She said: “I just wanted to hug the person on the other end of the phone. I live in Mansfield and being able to work in my home town will be fantastic.

“I’ve been in training for two weeks. It’s going to be different from my previous roles but customer service is at the heart of everything I do.”

PerfectHome is a UK-wide household goods retailer offering quality products to customers through, weekly, fortnightly or monthly payment options. Established in 2006, PerfectHome has 66 stores creating more than 650 jobs to date.
