The girls from the 105th Nottingham Guide Unit took part in a packed programme of team-building activities, helping its members make friends and learn to solve problems together.

The event was enabled through support from the Community First Neighbourhood Matched Fund.

The unit, which meets weekly at Ravensworth Road Methodist Church, is one of the oldest units in Notts, having been formed in 1941.

With half of the girls being new to the group in the last year, the exercise was a way of them getting to know each other.

“Several of the girls were complete newcomers to Girlguidingwhilst others joined us from various different Brownie units, so the group really didn’t know each other at all,” said Guide Leader Annette Scholes.

“The funding meant we could take part in a whole range of activities and events to help the girls make friends quickly and weld together as a team.

“I’m pleased to say we now have 20 Guides - all aged 10-13 - with another six in our recently re-opened Ranger Unit for girls aged 14-plus.’

Group activities over the last few months have included a trip to Drayton Manor theme park and a day out at the ‘Go Global!’ arts festival at Newark Showground where the Guides took part in cheerleading, circus skills, drama and crafts with 2,000 other Girlguiding members from across the Midlands.

The Bulwell girls also rose to the challenges presented by the Nottingham Climbing Centre in Basford and have just spent an action-packed holiday together in a Guide house near Linby, where they practised their climbing and swimming, explored the countryside, ran a quiz, visited a farm and cooked as a group.
