Work is due to start on the building of 17 high-quality new bungalows on Flint Avenue in Forest Town.
Contractors, Wates Living Space, will begin the £3m development on 8th December, when the whole of the street, including the community centre, will be fenced off.
Local residents are asked to take note that they will have not have access from their rear gardens onto the open space while the development takes place. The development is expected to be completed in November 2015.
The scheme includes a one-bed and sixteen two-bed properties, four of which will be wheelchair accessible. The community centre will also be refurbished as part of the contract and the open space will be enhanced with new planting and outdoor fitness stations.
Wates Living Space will be working with the council to ensure that there are apprenticeships available for local people and sub-contracting work available for local firms.
All of the properties will be rented out to people aged 60 plus and in the first instance, will be offered to residents currently living in council accommodation.
