British comedy opens at the Palace Theatre

A FARCICAL wartime comedy is set to delight theatre-goers when it opens at Mansfield’s Palace Theatre for a two-night run later this month.

The acclaimed Original Theatre Company will be returning to the Palace on 26th and 27th September for a new production of the popular British farce See How They Run.

Some of the company’s previous productions include Dancing at Lughnasa, Journey’s End, The Importance of Being Oscar and Othello.

Directed by Chris Harper, See How They Run stars a host of well-known actors including Lucy Speed (who played Natalie Evans in Eastenders, DC Chrissie Moss in The Bill and stars the new series of Law and Order) and Arthur Bostrom who is familiar to TV audiences as Officer Crabtree in the popular sitcom ‘Allo ‘Allo.

Other cast members include Sebastian Abineri, Leo Atkin, Rachel Donovan, Rhys King, Siobhan O’Kelly, and David Patridge.

The play, which is by Philip King, first opened in 1945 and the action takes place in a homely wartime vicarage in the fictional village of Merton-cum-Middlewick.

This peaceful world is turned upside down when a maverick soldier, an escaped Prisoner Of War, a Bishop and a few vicars get tangled up in a case of mistaken identity.

At the heart of the play is Penelope, played by Siobhan O’Kelly, who finds out more about herself and her husband than she had imagined as she tries to maintain an impression of order after a harmless joke throws the village into mortal danger.

Original Theatre Company was founded in 2004 and has since gone on to gain a reputation for producing classical and contemporary works alongside new writing.

It is principally a touring company and in the past year, members have done more than 200 performances and covered nearly 30,000 miles around the UK.

The show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced £15.50 with concessions available at £14.50. To book tickets or for more details contact the Box Office on Mansfield 633133 or visit www.mansfield.gov.uk/palacetheatre. For details on the theatre company, visit www.originaltheatre.com.
