FREE sat nav wipes and vehicle air fresheners with security reminders are to be given away in Bolsover on Friday.
Bolsover Community Safety Partnership is setting up stall on the Market Place, between 10am-2pm, to provide advice, information and hand-outs to help tackle vehicle crime.
Derbyshire Police’s crime reduction team will also be on hand to speak to anyone concerned about home and vehicle security.
The stall has been set up following an increase in the number of thefts from vehicles in Bolsover - with the majority of victims having left valuable items on display or their vehicle insecure.
Said Sgt Paul Smith, of the Community Safety Partnership: “Setting up the stall is one of a number of actions we have introduced to help deal with this issue; others have included delivering over 2,000 crime prevention leaflets in Bolsover and issuing reminders through the Derbyshire Constabulary and other websites.
“In all of these our message is quite simple. Very few thefts from vehicles happen where nothing has been left on show, so don’t leave valuables visible in your vehicle and, if possible, don’t leave them in there at all.
Items taken in the recent incidents include laptops, sat navs, iPods and even purses.
Sgt Smith added: “If the owners had not left these on view they could well still have them today.”
Further vehicle security advice is available on the Derbyshire Police, Bolsover District Council and Derbyshire County Council websites.
