ENGLISH Heritage is celebrating Easter with a Medieval St Georges’ Day weekend at Bolsover Castle from 23rd to 25th April, complete with a fearsome dragon, fighting knights and a dragon egg trail.
As part of the celebrations, which features a junior hobby horse joust and a variety of re-enactments, anyone named George or Georgina will be let in for free.
Lynsey Coombs, English Heritage visitor operations manager, said:“As St George’s Day and Easter coincide this year we are combining our St George’s Day and Easter celebrations at Bolsover Castle to stage a three day spectacular from Saturday 23rd to Bank Holiday Monday 25th April.”
“Visitors will be able to explore a knights’ medieval encampment where they can meet the knights and see demonstrations of 14th century cookery and crafts.
“New for this year will be an encounter with the executioner to hear gruesome tales of medieval crime and punishment. Each day concludes with a display of knight’s battling each other on foot in a medieval tournament.
“There will also be an egg trail around the grounds, but instead of Easter eggs visitors will be searching for dragon eggs!”
