A BODY was found yesterday evening (Thursday) during a search for a Swanwick man reported missing a week ago.
Police and Mountain Rescue volunteers were scouring woods at Hardwick Hall Park, Doe Lea when the body was discovered by a search dog just before 8pm.
The team had been searching ponds and other parts of the park for several days in order to find the man.
He had been reported missing by his wife last Friday when he failed to return home from work at chocolate maker Thortons.
Derbyshire Police have responded to local rumours by confirming the man was not a suspect in the Jia Ashton murder investigation.
Jia Ashton, who was also employed by Thortons, was found beaten to death in Sleetmoor Wood, Somercotes on 13th March, three days after she went missing while walking home from work.
The man’s next of kin have been told. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. Police are preparing a report for the coroner.
