THERE’S no doubt that driving can be a dangerous activity, which is why Nottinghamshire Police is dedicated to ensuring our roads are safe.

Operation Nisus is currently ongoing in Mansfield and Ashfield, which aims to tackle the ‘Fatal Four’ offences when driving.

These are: speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, using a mobile phone while driving, and drink driving.

Our officers are out there on our busiest roads stopping motorists who are committing one of the Fatal Four offences, which could prove deadly for themselves and other road users.

These factors are major contributors to the crashes that happen on our county’s roads every single day and I’d like to remind motorists that police will stop and arrest them if they are found to be driving dangerously.

Also, I’d like to ask motorists to remember that children have now gone back to school, so please take care when driving near to local schools and take care not to park inconsiderately during school time.

Motorists are also continuing to fall into the trap of leaving items on show inside their vehicles. An opportunist thief will think nothing of smashing a window to get their hands on a sat nav, a handbag, or a pair of sunglasses.

Even an item of clothing or an empty shopping bag can act as bait for passing thieves. Not only will you have to replace what was taken, but you will also have the financial burden of repairing the damage to your car. Be smart – remove everything from view and ensure your motor is locked and secure and parked in a safe place.
