Mansfield’s Westfield Folkhouse Young People’s Centre is celebrating its second anniversary with a ‘Beach Party Birthday Bash’ tomorrow (Sunday 2nd June).
myplace @ Westfield Folkhouse provides a wide range of fun facilities for youngsters aged 10 to 19 years old and caters for disabled people aged 13-24.
To mark its second birthday, staff have organised a special party that will include a rodeo bull, bouncy castle, graffitti art, circus skills, a relaxation workshop, a climbing wall, and a street football competition.
There will also be tutors running dance and music workshops, while staff are running a BBQ and a non-alcoholic cocktail bar.
The event at the centre, on Westfield Lane in Mansfield, is taking place between 2pm and 6pm.
Westfield Folkhouse underwent a major £6.65m revamp that has enabled it to provide a seven day programme of fun activities and support services available to young people in state-of-the-art surroundings.
It also offers provision for disabled young people, support for homeless young people and foundation learning courses.
Some of the activities available to users are: five-a-side football, netball, an allotment, music room, fitness dance mats, dance studio, basketball, outdoor gym, band performance nights, interactive fitness wall, volleyball, public access computers, non-alcoholic café bar, outdoor chess and boules area, multi-media gaming zones (Wii, X-Box, PS3) and discos.
The centre saw over 25,000 visits by young people accessing both leisure time activities and support services during the last financial year.
It is now looking to recruit volunteers to work alongside staff at the centre, so anyone who may be interested in running the coffee bar in the evening, or anyone with particular skills in music, dance or sport, and can volunteer on a regular basis at the centre should contact Nigel Down for an application form at myplace on Mansfield 624179.
