ASHFIELD rock and roll band The Mustangs Rock and Roll Experience are currently performing in the land of the Stars and Stripes, where their music heroes originated.
The five-piece have been invited to play a series of gigs in Portland, Maine, by an American fan who stumbled upon their website.
She was so impressed with the band, who regularly practise at Stanton Hill’s Rose and Crown pub, that she flew over to the UK and watched them in a live performance.
Lead vocalist Karl Binch said the invitation was a real honour.
He added: “I do not think many local bands have been given this opportunity.
“It really came about from our website. This could be a one-off or they may want us back at other venues.”
The band flew out on Friday for four performances - one of which at the Unity Church of Greater Portland in Maine is a fundraiser to help pay for a lung transplant.
The other three performances at bars and clubs in the town are raising money for Breast Cancer, to coincide with an awareness month this October.
Said Karl: “Americans love Robin Hood so we have chipped together and bought some silver platters to take out their and raffle off during a fundraising meal at the church.
“We will also be taking out CDs to sell.”
The band will be staying at a their friend’s house in Portland.
“It is the Fall over there now so the trees will be beautiful,” said Karl.
The band, who play songs from the 1950s and 1960, have been together for 10 years.
Karl added: “We are a lively, energetic band and wherever we go we get the crowd going.”
