ASHFIELD MP Gloria De Piero paid a visit to one of Sutton’s leading manufacturing firms, which supplies to the aerospace and defence industries.
The MP was given a guided tour of Midland Aerospace, which is based on Orchard Way, and met the entire workforce - including apprentice CNS programme setter David Sims, who persuaded the company to take him on.
David initially turned up unannounced and asked for a job - but was asked to apply when a vacancy came up.
But he returned to the firm to ask again and managing director Eamon Lyons was so impressed by his determination that he gave him a work experience placement - which then led to a full-time job.
Miss De Piero said: “What an inspiration David is. I wish him all the success in the future because he really does deserve it and it’s a great story too.
“Although I’d never recommend long-term work experience, there is no doubt that it helped David get his foot in the door at a brilliant local firm.
“He showed great determination and fight by refusing to take no for an answer.”
Despite the current economic climate, bosses say the company attracts clients from around the world and they are also hoping to expand.
