PEOPLE who are thinking about volunteering in the new year are being urged to get in touch with staff at Home Start Ashfield.
The charity, which is based on Sutton’s Carsic estate, is looking for people to share their experience of parenting with families in Ashfield.
Home Start is the chosen charity for Ashfield Chad’s first Christmas Appeal and over the past two months, generous readers have donated presents which are being given to parents for their children to open on Christmas Day.
Presents will also be given to children at Home Start’s Christmas party which takes place at Kirkby’s Festival Hall on Friday.
Home Start provides practical support and friendship to families who have at least one child under five-years-old.
Volunteers visit families in their own homes and it can often be a life-line to families who may be struggling for various reasons, such as ill health or living in an isolated part of the district.
Anyone who is interested in volunteering will be visited by a staff member from Home Start and asked general information. The potential volunteer will also be asked for two character references and will be required to undergo a CRB check.
The next part of the training involves a 10-week course which takes place once a week and this includes equal opportunities policy, confidentiality, safeguarding policy, the volunteer’s role and boundaries, family life issues, mental health, listening skills and community support networks.
