MEMBERS of Brierley Forest Park Golf Club in Huthwaite have dug deep for charity by raising more than £1,200 for Help for Heroes and the John Eastwood Hospice.
Help for Heroes, which supports injured service personnel, and John Eastwood Hospice at Sutton were the club’s chosen charities of the year and the funds were presented to representatives from each of the organisations last month.
The cash was raised with a variety of events and activities including golfing days, raffles, donations and by selling Help for Heroes rubber bracelets and brooches.
Past Captain at the club Roy Cantrill said that Help for Heroes was chosen because a number of members knew people who had served in Afghanistan, including the father of Kirkby soldier Rifleman Adrian Sheldon whose son lost his life in Helmand province in 2009.
He added: “We have got people who are involved in Afghanistan so we thought it was a good idea to do it for this year.”
He also thanked members of the club, as well as their friends and family for their generosity.
