Police are investigating a series of thefts after several cars had their number plates stolen.

The cars were parked in Lindhurst Lane, Shireoaks Court, and Barton Court, in Mansfield, when they were damaged in the early hours of Wednesday 26th June.

Temporary Det Insp Rich Monk said: “This type of mindless activity will have caused considerable inconvenience to drivers this morning.

“We believe this to be an isolated incident although the offences are believed to be linked.

We are asking for any witnesses to come forward and for residents to remain vigilant. Did you see or hear something unusual? Have you found a discarded number plate? If so, please contact us”

Police are carrying out enquiries in the area but follow these tips to better protect your vehicle:

Use ‘clutch’ or ‘non-return’ screws, which means they cannot be unscrewed once secure.

Buy number plates to a ‘Sold Secure’ standard, in which the number plate breaks if tampered with and is therefore unusable.

Keep your vehicle in a locked garage overnight, where possible. Otherwise, park in a busy, well-lit area.

Anyone with information should call police on 101. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
